Sports Funding

The school receives additional money from the government to improve PE and sport provision.  The P.E. and Sport Premium Funding  at West Thurrock Academy is used to improve and sustain high quality PE and sports provision.  It ensures that our pupils benefit from an ongoing legacy of enriched sport, exercise and healthy lifestyles.

Intended Outcomes:

  • To improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision within the academy, to implement a well-planned and competently delivered curriculum with the use of teachers and specialist coaches where required.
  • To increase participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels of which they are capable.
  • Detailed PE Improvement Plan with short and long term targets that enable all pupils to progress and achieve.

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses of the funding include:

  • Expert advice to evaluate the school’s current strengths and weaknesses in PE and sport, and implement plans for improvement;
  • Employing specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE;
  • Working alongside outside agencies and partners to develop the aspirations of pupils through sport;
  • Providing quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport;
  • Encourage competitive sports against other schools and host regular  inter-house sports competitions for pupils of all ages;
  • Provide the least active groups of pupils, and children that lack confidence and self-esteem, with a range of extra-curricular activities and residential visits;
  • Provide opportunities for more able children to excel in a range of sporting activities;
  • Purchase specialist equipment in order develop the quality of teaching for effective learning and to introduce non-traditional sports to the school.

Our overall aim is to raise standards in P.E. and school sport, increasing the participation and opportunities offered to our children. We aim to provide higher quality lessons and improved learning for all.
